Welcome to my new website and inaugural blog.
In creating the website I had a lot of help along the way. And I cannot thank enough my web developer Denny Wall for his patience and persistence (terms I use a lot in my coaching practice) in helping me into the 21st century with my own website. And a special thanks to my IT support guy, good friend and colleague Dave Streit for helping me ask all the right questions when first contemplating this new venture. There has never been a technical problem that Dave has not had a solution for, and having that support in running any business is immeasurable.
I must also thank the current and past clients of mine who offered their testimonials of our working together, and their outstanding ideas for getting the right feel and look for my site, many of which you will see on its different pages. I must further thank my wife Lori, daughter Marisa and her husband Michael who represent both spectrums of my client base, Baby Boomer and Millennials, for their thoughtful ideas on what would be most helpful to their respective generations when it comes to one’s career.
Recognizing these individuals is only the tip of the iceberg. Many of my coaching colleagues with their own practices and websites weighed in with ideas on website strategies from both a coaching perspective, as well as from a marketing and business one. After all, putting together a website is practically like putting together one’s own business plan. In this regard, I owe special thanks to my longtime colleague and mentor Don Teff whose creativity and practical approach to running a coaching practice is the perfect blend of what I aim to achieve with my website. Thanks Don!
I also owe special thanks to my colleagues at The Five O’Clock Club (TFC) with whom I have been associated for many years as a career coach, and to the numerous clients I have had an opportunity to work with in both an individual and group setting. The TFC is a nationally recognized job search and career development organization headquartered in New York City, and has increasingly become a nationally recognized leader in providing Human Resources services. I cut my coaching teeth at the TFC and many elements of their coaching methodology can be seen within my own practice.
Lastly, I owe a very special thanks to the person who gave me my start in coaching, Kate Wendleton, the founder and past president of The Five O’Clock Club. Kate would always say “put the job hunter first” and “always do what is in the best interests of the job hunter,” and those principles have guided me throughout my coaching career. I also owe Kate a ton of thanks for allowing me to write articles and blogs on job search and careers by using my own experiences, and intuition, in sharing how people look for jobs, the challenges they face, and what we can learn from them. You will see in the quotes, testimonials, and stories an attempt to demystify the job search process by peeling away the layers of misperceptions people have about their careers. Whether you are looking for a new job, to make a career switch, or to advance yourself in your current job or company you will be faced with these misperceptions on how to get there, and which can stand between you and that next job or career. My mission therefore is to provide you with a practical, strategic and competent approach in achieving your career goals by debunking the myths and misperceptions that hold people back from taking control of their careers and realizing their dream jobs.
I once read that interesting reading is the art of creating a certain tension between opposing things, people and actions, and offering an enlightening resolution which can hopefully teach us a thing or two about ourselves. I look forward to meeting this challenge in my own blogs and in the content I share on my website. Job search is not easy and can be fraught with tension and opposing points of view about what works and what doesn’t. These are the challenges I look forward to sharing with you.
Finally, there are so many others to thank in a short blog it would be hard to include them here, but my desire is to feature them in upcoming blogs, and even have them submit a guest blog with their insights on what is always an ever evolving job market.
